The Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum received a $1,000 grant from the Civic League of Bay County Advisory Endowment Fund via the Bay Area Community Foundation to support Bay County preschool and elementary student visits to the MMCM. Children learn best at their own pace and direct, hands-on interactive experiences are the most powerful method of learning. What better way to teach elementary students about the region then to provide a field trip to a local destination specifically designed for their developmental requirements?
A field trip to the MMCM satisfies both the teachers’ desire to plan a fun field trip within a convenient distance from the school building and to spend classroom funds wisely! With the admission paid by the Civic League grant, teachers can utilize classroom funds for the transportation costs or recruit parents to drive the students to the MMCM when possible. Approximately 6,300 students in Bay County are enrolled in 44 public and parochial schools K-4th grades and preschools, plus Great Start, Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms. This admission initiative will be available to eligible students in Bay County during the 2013 – 2014 school years as funds remain available. Teachers are invited to contact the MMCM directly to schedule a classroom field trip.
The Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum is located at 315 West Genesee Avenue in Saginaw. The MMCM places priority on teamwork, creativity and critical thinking through discovery-based learning for children from birth to 12 years of age. Special rates are available for groups who pre-schedule visits to the MMCM.
